I’m watching a lot of movies these days (compared to how many I used to watch before) and I’ve decided to write a review of the movies I see so that I’ll remember the theme, what I thought about it and maybe even suggest some good ones if friends want my opinion about a good movie to suit their mood. Of course these reviews will be biased and will be written according to my taste and what I notice in them, what I like and even dislike in the movie. I’ve taken up this venture for simple and supposedly stupid reasons. The reasons being the following: practicing on my writing skills so that I can start a professional psycho blog and to help refresh my memory now and then regarding the films I’ve seen and enjoyed. Moreover, when friends ask for my suggestions about what movie they should be watching, I’d like to say, “Yea, I know a few!” instead of “Hmmmm, I don’t exactly remember the name of the movie, but the story goes like this…” So sit back and relax. A few of them might be spoilers and don’t you say that I never warned you.

TROY

I was told by a friend that Brad Pitt’s character is almost barbaric and seems to have no sense of moral values in this film. Achilles is apparently a brave and matchless warrior who fights for a King he has no respect for. Orlando Bloom’s character (Paris, a prince of Troy) is pathetic until the last part when he somewhat makes up for his cowardliness. The battle scenes and duels are realistic and done very well. The elder brother of Paris, Hector, played by Eric Bana (who was also Hulk in the 1st part)is noble and courageous and he’s more like an angel on earth (sadly he is killed by Achilles in a duel). All in all, it’s worth a watch.

UP IN THE AIR

I downloaded it as soon as I found out that George Clooney is in it. It teaches us all a lesson - especially if you are the kind of person who likes to avoid having obligations towards anybody or dread being tied down by a relationship and wants to maintain your independence. It’s also a reminder to all those workaholics out there who are too involved in their jobs to manage to get a "co-pilot" (as George Clooney very coolly puts it) when we are unable to go on with life. Cheerio!

WANTED

An okie-dokie film based on the myth that a group of assassins who call themselves “The Fraternity” considers it their job to kill certain people assigned to them by “destiny”. It’s worth a watch considering the fact that Angelina Jolie is in it and seeing her in action is a treat. This movie reminded me of Tomb Raider and I simply had to pause in between to download the Tomb Raider torrents before I forgot to. Talk about doing one’s job right away without delay!

MAID IN MANHATTAN

It’s almost like a modern day Cinderella story and if you try to forget the fact that JLo’s acting in it and that in real life she is actually rich and famous, you’ll be able to enjoy the movie. I must admit that I liked JLo’s acting and it was really convincing but I simply hated the hairstyle she sported when she was supposed to be looking irresistibly beautiful in a gown. Thumbs down to the Senator who is supposed to be charming and a woman’s man but I think he’s got a squeaky voice and queer facial features.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY

I was expecting Meg Ryan to be as beautiful as ever as usual, but this is one movie of her’s I saw and actually said, “Yuck!”. Her character seems so insecure and histrionic (especially in that part in which she calls her “friend” when she discovers that her ex-boyfriend is about to get married and makes love to him when her “friend” comes over to console her). She sports all kind of funny hairstyles in this movie and they are gross!!! I decided on the fact that she looks good only when her hair is short. The hero of the story is completely abominable and I can’t even imagine a character played by Meg actually falling for him. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! I didn’t like this film one little bit (although there are certain philosophical ideas expressed by both of the main characters that actually got me thinking. Like the fact why a boy and a girl can’t be merely friends ;-) )
